WHY THIS TREK

Two 3,000 m peaks in Val Malenco

Two three-thousanders in two days, at the foot of Monte Disgrazia.

Group chat before departure
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

Day 1. We set off with the Guidders from Chiareggio and climb the Vazzeda valley to Rifugio Del Grande-Camerini, an eagle's nest facing the north wall of Monte Disgrazia. We drop the heavy packs and carry on to Passo Vazzeda, then quickly up to Cima di Val Bona, 3,033 metres. Dinner and a night in the hut, with the Disgrazia changing colour as evening falls.

Day 2. From the hut we climb the upper valley to Passo del Forno, a historic crossing into Switzerland, where the great Forno glacier opens up. With helmet, harness and via ferrata kit we tackle the fitted section leading to Monte del Forno, 3,214 metres: simple moves, but airy ones. Packed lunch at the top, then a loop back down to Chiareggio.

5 reasons to come - two summits above three thousand metres in one weekend - the north wall of the Disgrazia right in front of the hut - the fitted final section of Monte del Forno - the Forno glacier seen from the Swiss crossing - the night in the hut, which is half the trip

Who it suits You need fitness and a steady step: the fitted section is airy though straightforward, and it works even if it is your first time with a kit.

Two days, two three-thousanders: come and get them with the Guidders.
