Rifugio Capanna 2000: Winter trekking on the slopes of Pizzo Arera

A hut beneath the walls of the Arera, with snow all around.

We set off with the Guidders from Plassa, at Zambla Alta, and climb towards Rifugio Capanna 2000, alternating the access road with an easy forestry track, wrapped in the quiet of the winter mountains. Along the way you can pick out Monte Alben, Pizzo Grem, Cima Foppazzi and Cima di Menna, while snow-covered woodland keeps you company step after step. The hut sits beneath the imposing walls of Pizzo Arera, and inside the welcome is the genuine kind.
