Pizzo Spadolazzo 2,722 m from the Spluga Pass: loop between Lago Nero and Lago di Emet
Spadolazzo: lakes loop
Two lakes, a ridge and a summit on the Swiss border.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Rifugio Stuetta, a step away from Lake Montespluga, and climb steadily to Lago Nero, set deep among the rocks. Then the ground changes: scree and grassy slopes lead to the pass, where the Lago Ghiacciato valley suddenly opens up on the Swiss side. A last ridge section, easy but taken with care, reaches the cross on Pizzo Spadolazzo: ahead of you, Pizzo Suretta, Pizzo Tambò and the glacial basins of the Grisons. We descend the opposite ridge to Lago di Emet and Rifugio Bertacchi, then follow the Montespluga reservoir back to the cars.
5 reasons to come - a full loop, up one side and down the other - Lago Nero set deep among the rocks - the final ridge, easy but high and wild - Lago di Emet and Rifugio Bertacchi on the way back - a border view, between Lombardy and the Grisons
Who it suits You need fit legs and to be at ease on rocky high ground. Nothing technical, but it is a long day.
