Monte Toro from Foppolo: panoramic ridges and Lago Moro in the upper Val Brembana
Monte Toro: ridges above Foppolo
A ridge above Foppolo, with the whole Orobie range under your feet.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the car park in Foppolo and climb into the bowl of Lago Moro, a small lake set among the high pastures. From there we turn onto the south-west ridge of Monte Toro: this is what makes the loop special, with a few rock steps where you use your hands and a view that opens up with every metre. At the top your eyes travel all the way round: Corno Stella, Pizzo del Diavolo, Cima di Lemma and, on clear days, the Rhaetian Alps beyond the Valtellina. We come down the south-east ridge, pass the Montebello tarns and close the loop back in Foppolo.
5 reasons to come - the south-west ridge, the finest stretch of the whole loop - Lago Moro tucked among the high pastures - the summit view sweeping across the Orobie - the Montebello tarns on the way back - the upper Val Brembana, far from the crowds
Who it suits You need fit legs and a steady step on steep, rocky ground: nothing technical, but the ridge is taken calmly.
Come and join the Guidders: we leave Foppolo together and come home with one of those days you keep telling people about.
