The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Miazzina and climb through pastures and woodland to Monte Todun, then to Pizzo Pernice and Pian Cavallone, finishing on Monte Todano. Throughout the circuit the view stays open onto Lake Maggiore and the alpine arc: crests, pastures and the signature views of the Verbano one after another. The height gain is serious, and that is precisely why the day is felt and remembered.

Starting from the Miazzina car park (736 m), follow the paved road to the junction for Alpe Runchio. After crossing a wooden bridge, you'll join the trail which crosses the stream and quickly leads to the alpine meadow. Here, you'll get your first panoramic views.

From Alpine Pastures to Mount Tudun
From the alpine meadow, follow the "Vertical Kilometer" trail (approx. 900m elevation gain), a direct and challenging path that leads to Monte Todun (1298m).
12:30SUMMIT
Pizzo Pernice and Pian Cavallone: A Hiking Adventure Awaits!
We continue along the ridge towards Pizzo Pernice (1506 m), one of the most scenic viewpoints on the trek. From here, we press on towards Pian Cavallone, easily recognizable by its solitary little church: one of the area's most iconic landmarks.
13:30VIEWPOINT
Mount Todano
One last push to the summit of Monte Todano (1667m), the highest point of our trek, where you'll find a summit cross and the traditional peak book to sign!
16:00RETURN
Back to the trailhead / vehicles.
"We'll head back towards Pian Cavallone and then descend to Cappella Fina, from where we'll return to Miazzina."
