WHY THIS TREK

Three days at the foot of Monviso

The experience

DAY ONE - Rifugio Quintino Sella
Let's naturally start with the history of Monviso and the Po. Indeed, Italy's longest river rises from a tiny spring at the foot of Monviso, which we will be able to see in the distance. Following the Vallanta stream and entering the valley of the same name, with little elevation gain we will find ourselves in the enchanted Alevé forest, home to the largest expanse of Swiss stone pines in the Alps, and with a pleasant walk we will head towards Lake Lungo and Lake Bertin. We will tackle Passo Gallarino and Passo di San Chiaffredo, marked by a stretch of stone cairns, and begin to appreciate the grandeur of Monviso. There will be plenty of breaks, and our gaze will start to seek out beauty, and at the same time, silence. The historic Rifugio Quintino Sella, named after the founder of the CAI, will host us, and we'll be able to hear the stories and tales of all those who climbed Monviso years before, or even that very morning. Here we will spend our first night.

How do you get to Pontechianale? By carpooling.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Massimiliano, an environmental hiking guide — and I'm not alone: with me there's Stefania, a guide too, and together we're a couple in love with mountains, nature and tradition. We walk looking for new trails and summits, but above all for experiences. We became guides for a simple reason: we like our passion being shared with other people, and on your own you share nothing. We're mostly out in Piedmont and the Aosta Valley, but our bags also hold Sardinia, Liguria, Trentino and Lombardy. The name of our social profiles says who we are: SECONDA VITA 51.20. Follow us if you like. 🥾 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
