WHY THIS HIKE

The Path of the Souls, Traversella

HOW TO GET THERE
09:00MEETING
Piazza Cavour Traversella Valchiusella
This loop trail in Valchiusella combines nature, local history, landscape, and tales and legends of the area. The starting point is Traversella, a small village nestled among the mountains of Valchiusella. We're located between Cuorgné and Ivrea. We start from Piazza Cavour and walk along Via Monte Marzo, which soon leads into the dense chestnut woods behind the village. We chose to continue straight along the trail (it can also be walked in the opposite direction). Here the history of the place becomes increasingly interesting because every now and then we come across clusters of abandoned mountain huts that once belonged to local inhabitants, bearing witness to the farming life of the past; one in particular stands out, adorned on its outer wall with a beautiful fresco depicting the Madonna, St Anne and St John. We continue towards Cappia and Piani di Cappia, which is also the highest point of our hike at 1340 m. At this point, after enjoying the scenery, we begin the return leg along a higher trail that runs parallel to the outbound route. Along the way we stop now and then to admire the rock carvings that are a distinctive feature of this place.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Franco, an environmental hiking guide and a climbing instructor. I've loved the mountains and outdoor activity for as long as I can remember, and I love being out there in every season: everything changes four times a year, which is why you never get bored of the same trail. What I enjoy most is sharing with other people what I feel out there. Climbing included: teaching someone to trust their own feet is one of the most satisfying things I do. I love travelling and planning my trips in complete freedom — and some of that freedom always ends up in the outings I offer. 🥾 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
