A gentle, panoramic hike starting from Pescegallo, in Valgerola, climbing towards Rifugio Salmurano between fragrant woods, stone huts and bright valleys. The trail gains height calmly, skirting pastures where the silence of the mountains takes centre stage.

The experience

Before the climb we walk the loop around Lago di Pescegallo, one of the most photographed lakes in the Valtellina Orobie, set among the peaks and a different colour with every change of light.

Reaching the hut, at 1,847 metres, we find a natural terrace with a spectacular view of Pizzo dei Tre Signori and the surrounding valleys: the perfect spot for a lunch break, a home-made cake and a few photos. Eight kilometres and 550 metres of ascent in total.

This is an easy hike: 550 metres of ascent over eight kilometres, on a wide, panoramic mule track. Perfect as a first outing, for families and for anyone wanting a light day. Bring hiking boots and water.

Meeting at Pescegallo
We meet the Guidders at the car park in Pescegallo, in Gerola Alta (SO). From here a wide, panoramic mule track leads straight into the beauty of Valgerola. The exact time is shared in the outing's Telegram group.
11:00LAKE
The Lago di Pescegallo loop
We walk the loop around Lago di Pescegallo and, after the obligatory photos, start climbing towards the hut. The lake changes colour with the light: it is one of the most photographed in the Valtellina Orobie.
12:30MOUNTAIN HUT
Lunch at Rifugio Salmurano (1,847 m)
The hut is a broad balcony over the Orobie, perfect for a good lunch break and a view that restores you: in front of us Pizzo dei Tre Signori and the surrounding valleys.
15:00RETURN
Back to Pescegallo
We descend the same mule track we came up, the valley opening ahead and the lake reappearing among the pastures. At the cars we take the time for a toast before saying goodbye.
