This excursion will take you across the mysterious Ciapa Liscia, a huge slab of stone smoothed by millennia, up the panoramic Monte Roncalla, and finally down into the legendary Valle Tribolata, a place that seems to come straight out of a Dante's inferno. An experience for true Guidders!

First meeting point is in the main square in Ferriere, to consolidate vehicles. Near the square you'll find a café/bakery, a pharmacy, and more. Make sure to grab a slice of "torta di patate," a savory potato cake and a Val Nure specialty – it's packed with energy, like plutonium!

Our trail first winds through a beautiful beech forest, with some slightly exposed sections (we're on the "Rocca Marsa" here!), before leading us over a short, moderately challenging (EE-rated) scramble across rocky outcrops to Ciapa Liscia (and we'll discover the meaning behind these unusual names!).

Monte Roncalla e Groppo Rosso
Panoramic stops on Mount Roncalla (1685 m a.s.l.) and Groppo Rosso (1597 m a.s.l.): we're on the border between the provinces of Piacenza and Genoa. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the Aveto Valley and several Apennine peaks, including Mount Nero, Mount Maggiorasca, and Mount Bue.

Valle Tribolata
Now we descend into the Tribolata Valley, and it quickly becomes clear how it got its name.

Return
Having explored the Tribolata Valley and its hidden spring, we'll begin our return journey, partly through a lovely beech forest with a gentle uphill climb, and partly along the same trail we took on the way in, leading us back to our vehicles. From there, we'll head back to Ferriere to collect our cars and, why not, enjoy a well-deserved snack!
