Lake Avaro: a scenic trek in Val Brembana
Lake Avaro: a scenic trek in Val Brembana
An alpine lake and a summit, in the same loop.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the Piani dell'Avaro, above Cusio, and climb through high pastures and mountain path towards Monte Foppa, then drop to Lago Avaro, a small sheet of water set into the plateau, and climb again to Monte Avaro. The view stays open for almost the whole circuit across the Val Brembana and the surrounding peaks, in genuine alpine country you reach without needing an endless day.
5 reasons to come - an alpine lake and two summits in a single loop - the open view across the Val Brembana - the high pastures of the Piani dell'Avaro - Rifugio Monte Avaro as a place to pause - a varied circuit that never repeats the same view
Who it suits Steady gradients, stony ground in places and a few passages wanting a sure step, especially when wet.
Keen to get high without overdoing it: come with the Guidders.
