WHY THIS HIKE

Hidden waterfalls of Rio Gavi

The exact time is confirmed in the group chat. We usually meet a little earlier for breakfast together, when possible.
HOW TO GET THERE
09:30MEETING
Gavi
First meeting point: 9:00 am at the piazza XXV Aprile car park in Bobbio (PC) - next to Bar Caffetterie Mondani. Second meeting point and start of the trek: 9:30 am in the hamlet of Gavi, Coli (PC).
10:00PARKING
The Giants with feet of clay
Our trek begins with a journey into the geology of this place: the Martian-like landscape typical of the ophiolitic rocks emerging from the clay substrate, giving rise to myths and legends about Giants and mysterious creatures.
10:30SUMMIT
Monte Castello
A magical place unknown to most. This is the megalithic altar of Monte Castello which, with its cup marks and terraces, speaks to us of a distant time when men and Gods shared places and thoughts. We'll set off among Celtic-Ligurian stories, rites and traditions linked to the Spring Equinox.
11:30VIEWPOINT
A balcony over the Val Trebbia
We'll continue our journey through this wild place, accompanied by a splendid view over the Trebbia river, Bobbio and much of the valley.
12:30WATERFALL
The hidden waterfalls of Rio Gavi
A lunch break at the foot of a hidden spectacle of rare beauty: the Rio Gavi Waterfalls. A succession of water falls and small emerald-green pools, rushing down from the ophiolites of the Tre Sorelle. All around, Spring advancing, with blooms, scents and awakenings.
15:30RETURN
Gavi
Once the lunch break is over, we'll head back to the cars, completing the loop trail that brings us back to Gavi. FOR THOSE WHO WISH: the option to stop in Bobbio at the small public thermal pool - Ponte Gobbo area - where you can dip your feet to recharge, plus a snack in the historic pastry shop in the centre.

How do you get to Gavi? By carpooling.

You say so when booking, then you get organised in the Telegram group. Contacts and costs are agreed between you: a seat isn't guaranteed.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Giorgia, an environmental hiking guide: raised among trails, and glad I never stopped. I've lived the mountains since I was a child, and since 2019 I've turned that passion into a full-time job. I guide adults and children along the trails of the Apennines, the Alps and around Europe, with a constant appetite for discovering, learning and sharing. I'm never still: I study, read, write, fly a drone, raise butterflies and raise small muddy explorers through Adventure Education projects. And yes, I'm happy: this is the life I dreamed of, and there's nothing in the world I'd rather do "when I grow up". 🦋🥾 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
