WHY THIS HIKE

A Dolomite loop in Val di Scalve

A route combining the beauty of Val di Scalve with a Dolomite challenge. We start from Rifugio Cimon della Bagozza, crossing the Conca dei Campelli, one of the most characteristic settings of the so-called Scalve Dolomites.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

The climb turns demanding straight away: we tackle the steep scree of the north side up to Passo delle Ortiche, a stretch calling for maximum care because of the loose ground. The reward comes at the top: from Cimon della Bagozza (2,407 m) the view turns full circle over the Orobie and the Adamello.

The descent continues at altitude to Passo di Valzellazzo, where the modern Bivacco Don Giulio Corini stands, and from there the loop closes back at the start. Ten kilometres and 1,000 metres of ascent.

This is a hard hike: 1,000 metres of ascent with a steep scree slope on loose ground where a sure step and care are needed. Not suitable for beginners. Bring sturdy boots, poles, a helmet (recommended) and a windproof jacket.

Come with the Guidders: book your place and let's climb the Cimon.

HOW TO GET THERE
09:00MEETING
Meeting at Rifugio Cimon della Bagozza
We meet the Guidders near Rifugio Cimon della Bagozza, in Schilpario (BG), in the roadside spaces. If the road to the hut is closed in winter we park at Fondi di Schilpario, adding height gain, distance and time. The exact time is shared in the Telegram group.
11:30SUMMIT
On the summit of Cimon della Bagozza (2,407 m)
We cross the Conca dei Campelli and tackle the steep scree of the north side up to Passo delle Ortiche: loose ground, so we stay together and take care. From the pass a final stretch leads to the summit cross, with the view opening over the Orobie and the Adamello.
13:00PASS
Passo di Valzellazzo and Bivacco Corini
The descent continues at altitude to Passo di Valzellazzo, where we come to the modern Bivacco Don Giulio Corini. We stop for a break and lunch, with Val di Scalve on one side and Val Camonica on the other.
15:00RETURN
Back to the hut
From Passo di Valzellazzo we descend to close the loop back to the cars, without going down the scree we climbed. We take the time for a toast before saying goodbye.
