HOW TO GET THERE
19:00PARKING
Meet-up at the car park near Lago Piccolo (Small Lake).
Let's meet at the parking lot to leave our cars and set off towards the trailhead.
19:30VILLAGE
From Via Sada to the Moncuni Trailhead
We start on Via Sada, which leads us to the hamlet of the same name, before diving into a chestnut forest. We follow a wide mule track that narrows into a footpath, bringing us to the start of our proper ascent.
20:00PARKING
From the Old Mule Track to the Summit of Moncuni!
"The trail partially overlaps with the ancient Pilgrims' Way. You'll hike through mixed woodlands of oak, downy oak, and juniper, interspersed with open areas where lichens and shrubs characteristic of the moraine ridge thrive, along with conifers from reforestation efforts. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife, typical of lower mountain altitudes! You might spot foxes, the occasional great tit or woodpecker, and sometimes a hunting kite soaring overhead."
20:30FOOD STOP
Summit Supper
From the summit, breathtaking views unfold: to the southeast, the Avigliana lakes and the Mareschi marsh; to the west, the Orsiera-Rocciavrè mountain range; and to the northwest, Mount Musinè, Mount Arpone, Colle del Lys, the Sacra di San Michele abbey, Rocciamelone, Monte Ciabergia, stretching all the way to Monviso. We'll enjoy our dinner at the picnic tables located just below the summit.
21:00SUMMIT
"From the summit, hike along the ridge and descend to the start of the mule track, completing a loop trail."
We'll traverse the summit ridge as evening descends, and by the light of our headlamps, we'll pass the Bal dle Masche – a place once said to be a witches' sabbath. A short traverse through the dense woods will bring us back to the start of the trail, which leads us down to the lake and our cars.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Luca, an environmental hiking guide and a Nordic Walking instructor with SINW. I spent a short part of my childhood in Pragelato, among freshly milked milk and larch woods: the voice of the streams, the crunch of leaves underfoot and the sharpness of a snow-bright summit have stayed with me. Forests are where I recharge, and whose incredible handed-down stories I love telling. I like joining a passion for the outdoors to a commitment to nature and the environment, and not only in words: I'm a leader for Pro Natura Torino, I help maintain the trail network and I work with the Amici Ambiente group of Baldissero Torinese. For over ten years I've taken children and families along trails and up to mountain huts, qualified by CAI as a sectional leader for youth mountaineering. I practise every discipline that brings me into contact with the mountains — trail running, climbing, skiing, cycle touring, mountain biking — always with respect for nature, for those who live in it and for everyone else out there. See you in the mountains, Guidders!
