WHY THIS HIKE

The Giannantonj bivouac, Adamello views

A few metres from the largest glacier in Italy.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Fabrezza and climb an easy mule track to Rifugio Paolo Prudenzini. From there the ground changes entirely: granite rock keeps us busy for the hours that follow, in the company of the animals that live in the valley. The objective is the Bivacco Arrigo Giannantonj, at the Passo Salarno, one of those places to see at least once: from there you stand a few metres from the Pian di Neve, the largest glacier in Italy, with the Adamello standing guard over it.

5 reasons to come - the Pian di Neve, Italy's largest glacier - the Bivacco Giannantonj at the Passo Salarno - Rifugio Prudenzini halfway up - the granite rock of the upper section - a place that stays in your heart, not just your eyes

Who it suits There are no difficult passages, but the climb is long and on rock: good fitness and a sure step are needed.

A glacier within sight: come and see it with the Guidders.
