WHY THIS TRIP
From Piazza Maggiore to Palazzo Vecchio, on foot
About a hundred and twenty-five kilometres of Apennines between Bologna and Florence, on a route the Etruscans used before the Romans, and which the Romans paved as the Flaminia Militare: stretches of paving you still walk on, more than twenty-two centuries later. You start in Piazza Maggiore and arrive in Piazza della Signoria, on foot, without ever taking a vehicle.

MUST READ
Transport

Meeting in Piazza Maggiore, BolognaMEETING POINT08:00
We meet at 8 am in Piazza Maggiore in Bologna with the guide and your Guiddy Coordinator: this is where the Via degli Dei begins. You get here by car-pooling with other Guidders (say so when you book, then sort it out in the Telegram group) or by train: the Central station is a fifteen-minute walk down via Indipendenza. Your big bag goes to the van (we give you the exact spot in the Telegram group); you buy a packed lunch before setting off, via Saragozza has shops and cafés.
Under the porticoes up to San LucaCHURCH
From Piazza Maggiore you follow via Saragozza to the Meloncello arch and from there climb to the San Luca sanctuary under the longest portico in the world: almost 4 kilometres and more than 650 arches, the last stretch all uphill. From up there Bologna drops away and the Apennines begin.
Along the Reno to BadoloHIKING TRAIL
After the sanctuary you go down to Parco Talon in Casalecchio and walk along the Reno on the via Panoramica, then climb to the Prati di Mugnano and Badolo: 23 kilometres, the first serious taste. Packed lunch on the way. Night in Badolo, split between two places close to each other: they are small and the group does not fit in one.
