Trekking on the River Trail: a hike through waterfalls, river crossings, and Alpe Era on Lake Como
The River Trail to Alpe Era
A path that follows the stream, between fords and chains.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Somana, above Mandello del Lario, and take the Sentiero del Fiume: a route that follows the Era stream between fords, natural pools, waterfalls and passages cut into the rock. Some sections are fitted with chains and ask for a firm foot, especially when the rock is damp. After the final climb we reach Alpe Era, a small alpine hamlet wrapped in quiet, with Lake Como appearing between the trees; depending on time we can carry on to Alpe Cetra for lunch.
5 reasons to come - the Era stream, with fords, pools and waterfalls - the sections fitted with chains - Alpe Era, a silent alpine hamlet - Lake Como opening up as you climb - a route unlike any other above the Lario
Who it suits It asks for attention, a firm foot and a sure step: there are fords and fitted sections, slippery when the rock is wet.
One of the most surprising paths above the lake: come and walk it with the Guidders.
