The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Fontanaccia and enter the Val di Rezzalo, between Sondalo and the upper Valtellina: a valley that smells of larch, summer pasture and real silence. We follow mountain path and easy tracks towards Le Gande, Alpe Teat, Macoggia, Gnera and Il Merlo, with Rifugio La Baita along the way and the Passo dell'Alpe higher up. The climb is steady and the valley opens out little by little, wide and full of light: here the mountains are still lived in, not simply crossed.

HOW TO GET THERE

Start from Fontanaccia
The tour starts from Fontanaccia, above Sondalo (SO). The scenery already has the unmistakable character of Val di Rezzalo: open, lush and green, with sweeping views across the valley.
09:30MOUNTAIN HUT
Alpe Teat
Once you reach the Teat area, the views open up even further across the valley. Here, the hike passes through a beautifully preserved alpine pasture landscape, with traditional buildings and wide open grazing meadows.
10:00MOUNTAIN HUT
La Baita Mountain Hut
We reach the mountain hut, nestled right in the heart of the valley.
12:30MOUNTAIN HUT
Alpe Pass
Once we reach the mountain pass, we’ll enjoy sweeping views over the Gavia area and the towering peaks above Santa Caterina. After a picnic lunch, we’ll complete a short circular route that leads us back down into the valley.

Return to Fontanaccia
We return to Fontanaccia after a rewarding trek—varied, full, and a perfect showcase of the Val di Rezzalo.
