Sant’Anna di Vinadio Lakes Circuit Trek: a scenic hike through alpine lakes and borderland history
The Sant'Anna di Vinadio lakes
A loop of lakes and passes, on the French border.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the sanctuary of Sant'Anna di Vinadio, the highest in Europe, and reach Lago di Sant'Anna, then climb to the panoramic Passo Tesina. From there the paths run suspended between Italy and France, past old barracks and military tracks, in alpine country of rare beauty. We touch the Colle Saboulè, the Lausfer lakes and the Colle del Lausfer, crossing landscapes that keep changing: rock spires, pastures and clear water.
5 reasons to come - the full circuit of the Sant'Anna lakes - the highest sanctuary in Europe as a starting point - border passes between Italy and France - the old barracks and military tracks along the way - the Maritime Alps, where rock turns into spires
Who it suits A long loop with several climbs and descents: good fitness and a sure step on alpine ground.
