WHY THIS TREK

Rifugio Mezzalama below Monte Rosa

Two days at the foot of Monte Rosa.

Group chat before departure
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

Day 1. We set off with the Guidders from Saint-Jacques, above Champoluc, and work up the Valle di Verra through woods, streams and wide alpine meadows. We cross the lower and upper Pian di Verra, with the Lago Blu and the glaciers of Monte Rosa ahead, then the final stretch over moraines and stony ground to Rifugio Mezzalama, poised in a unique high-mountain setting. We spend the night up there.

Day 2. We come down from the hut back along the valley to Blanchard and the cars, with the massif changing colour by the hour.

5 reasons to come - sleeping at Rifugio Mezzalama, below Monte Rosa - the Lago Blu and the glaciers of the massif - the Verra plateaus, green and silent - the glacial moraines on the final climb - the Val d'Ayas, one of the finest valleys in Aosta

Who it suits Two days with serious height gain and stony ground up high: good fitness and a sure step are needed.

Monte Rosa up close is another thing: come and see it with the Guidders.
