Trekking to Cima Piazzotti from Fenile with lunch at Rifugio Benigni
Cima Piazzotti and Rifugio Benigni
The summit first, then lunch at the hut.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Fenile, in the Val Gerola, on a firm woodland climb that gets going straight away. The path gains height through clearings and pasture, and the setting turns steadily more alpine, up to the steep, stony section that leads to the summit of Cima Piazzotti. From up there the view is wide across the whole Orobie range. Only after the top do we drop to Rifugio Benigni for lunch, with a view: a complete day of effort, achievement and rest, in the right order.
5 reasons to come - the summit of Cima Piazzotti, earned before eating - lunch at Rifugio Benigni, with a view - the open view across the Orobie - the Val Gerola, genuine and uncrowded - a climb that gets going immediately
Who it suits A steep, stony final section: it takes a good pace and fitness, but nothing technical.
