WHY THIS HIKE

Zucco Orscellera above Piani di Bobbio

A scenic and incredibly rewarding hike in the heart of Valsassina, winding through historic paths, old abandoned ski lifts, and spectacular views of the Lecco mountains. Together with Guidders, we will set off from Barzio, following the evocative 'Sentiero del Pequeno,' which traces the route of the historic, now-decommissioned chairlift. During the ascent, we will encounter the scenic Baita Masone, the ruins of the old Hotel Pequeno, and ever-widening vistas over the Piani di Bobbio. The final stretch, steeper and off-trail, will lead us to the summit of Zucco Orscellera (1,856 m), a magnificent panoramic balcony offering 360° views of the Grigne, the Resegone, and the Valsassina mountains. After a break at the Rifugio Lecco, we will return via the easy service road, completing a beautiful loop.

HOW TO GET THERE

We will meet at the parking area near the Barzio cemetery.
10:30HIKING TRAIL
"Small"
From Barzio, we will ascend to the Piani di Bobbio via the Pequeno trail, which leads to the area following the path of the old, now-dismantled chairlift.
11:30HIKING TRAIL
Zucco dell'Orscellera
From El Pequeño, we will ascend a very steep, trackless meadow, setting our sights on our goal visible just above us.
12:30HIKING TRAIL
Lecco Mountain Hut
From the summit, we will follow an easy ridge section—with no exposure—before taking the Campelli loop trail, which descends to Rifugio Lecco via the Bocchetta di Pesciola pass. Once at the refuge, we will stop for lunch. You are welcome to purchase a meal at the refuge, or if you prefer to bring your own packed lunch, you can still stop by to enjoy a slice of cake or a coffee.

Zucco Orscellera above Piani di Bobbio
