Trekking to the Ercavallo Lakes: a scenic hike from Passo del Tonale through alpine lakes and history
Trekking to the Ercavallo Lakes: a scenic hike from Passo del Tonale through alpine lakes and history
Crystal lakes and traces of the White War.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the Tonale pass and follow a panoramic path that climbs gently through meadows and glacial country, with the Adamello-Presanella group always in view. We pass the Passo dei Contrabbandieri and Rifugio Bozzi, and along the way come across the remains of fortifications and gun positions from the First World War, which tell the story of the White War. The objective is the Ercavallo lakes: a chain of pools set among rock and moraine, inside the Stelvio national park.
5 reasons to come - the Ercavallo lakes, clear and one after another - White War positions along the route - Rifugio Bozzi as a place to pause - the view over the Adamello-Presanella - the Stelvio national park at its most open
