The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Chiareggio and climb towards Rifugio Del Grande-Camerini, on a path that alternates pastures, scree and steady gradients, with the valley always open below. It is a stern, rewarding setting, the kind where you earn every metre: you reach the hut with that satisfaction on you, facing one of the most alpine basins in Lombardy. The way back drops through the Val Sissone, a different world from the climb, down to Chiareggio.

HOW TO GET THERE

We set off from the large car park at Pian del Lupo, just beyond the village of Chiareggio.

Del Grande Camerini Mountain Hut
We arrive at Rifugio Del Grande Camerini, an ideal spot for a longer break, with sweeping views over the valley and the surrounding peaks, while Monte Disgrazia towers overhead. Optional lunch at the mountain hut.
13:00VIEWPOINT
Descent through the Val Sissone Valley
For the descent, we’ll take a circular route via Val Sissone. A couple of equipped sections will lead us into a steep gully before bringing us back into the forest.
15:00RETURN
Return to Chiareggio
The final downhill stretch gradually leads back into the forest and then to the starting point, bringing a rich and varied hike to a close through woodland, alpine pastures, and high mountain scenery.
