Griera Refuge: A Valvarrone Loop Hike Through Forests, Past Alpine Pastures, with Views of Mount Legnone
The Rifugio Griera loop in Valvarrone
The Legnone opposite, and a hut where the effort disappears.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the Alpe Gallino, above Pagnona, on a loop in the heart of the Valvarrone. The route alternates a hairpinned woodland climb — perfect for finding your rhythm — with more open ground between Fontana Fredda and Malga Alpe Campo, up to Rifugio Griera. From up there the view opens onto the local peaks and above all the imposing profile of Monte Legnone, the star of the day. The return closes the loop.
5 reasons to come - Monte Legnone seen from Rifugio Griera - the hairpinned woodland climb that sets your rhythm - Fontana Fredda and Malga Alpe Campo - a complete loop that does not double back - the Valvarrone, silent and little walked
Who it suits A loop on mountain paths with a steady climb: normal walking fitness is enough.
A view that sweeps the effort away: come with the Guidders.
