Rifugio F.A.L.C.: autumn trek in Val Gerola through foliage and Bocchetta di Trona
F.A.L.C.: autumn in Val Gerola
A refuge at 2120 meters, a loop through autumn woods, and us in the middle.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Gerola Alta, with foliage colors lighting up the forest from the very first steps. We climb with the Guidders through Val Vedrano, passing Rifugio Trona Soliva, a classic stop on this route, before gaining altitude toward the Bocchetta di Trona. Here, at 2029 meters, we pass the ruins of the former Rifugio Pio XI, an old pass between Val Gerola and Valsassina. The final stretch takes us up to Rifugio F.A.L.C., where we stop to enjoy the golden afternoon light before closing the loop on the way down. The route is a loop, built for anyone who loves real mountain walking, with steep stretches and open views over the Orobie Alps.
The refuge carries a piece of alpine history: it belongs to the CAI Milano sub-section, and the pass at Bocchetta di Trona is a reminder that these trails were once real connections between valleys, not just hiking paths.
