The Presolana by its normal route: summit of the Queen of the Orobie
Presolana normal route
You can see the Presolana from half of Lombardy: a wall of pale limestone towering over Val Seriana and Val di Scalve. Climbing its normal route to the western summit, at 2,521 metres, is many hikers' dream and a real first step into mountaineering.
The experience
We start from the Passo della Presolana and climb through the woods to the Baita Cassinelli, then up the scree to the Grotta dei Pagani, a huge cave beneath the walls.
From here the mountaineering begins: a gully and easy rock steps of grade I and II, roped together, up to the summit cross. The view runs from the Orobie to the Adamello. We come down the same way, taking our time.
The group is 2 or 3 Guidders, roped together: a tailor-made outing, which is why places are few. You need a helmet, harness and stiff boots; if there is already snow up high in late November, crampons and an ice axe are added. Helmet, ice axe and harness can be rented when you book. Car pooling in the Telegram group.
The Passo della Presolana is an hour from Bergamo and an hour and three quarters from Milan, driving up via Clusone and Castione. Park at the pass, where the trail to the Baita Cassinelli starts. We meet early: it is a long day.
