Monte Guglielmo by night: the Redeemer under a full moon
Brescia's symbol mountain, under a full moon
Monte Guglielmo has always been the symbol mountain of the province of Brescia: 1,957 metres in a privileged spot between Val Trompia and Lake Iseo. On top stands the statue of the Redeemer, which by day dominates the valley and by night becomes a silhouette against the sky.
The experience
This is a different kind of outing: we walk in the evening, with the full moon as our lamp. We start from Rifugio Croce di Marone and climb the mule track to the summit, passing Rifugio Almici a few minutes below the top. It is 15 kilometres and 750 metres of ascent, with no technical difficulty but with the dark making everything different.
At the top we stop to take in the valley and Lake Iseo lit by the moon, something warm in hand, before setting off back down.
This is an intermediate hike: 750 metres of ascent on a mule track, within reach of anyone who walks regularly, but we go at night and the cold at altitude is felt even in summer. A head torch is mandatory, plus a warm jacket, light gloves and boots. The hut car park charges a fee: we meet at the start of the road.
Come with the Guidders: book your place and let's walk up to the Redeemer.
