Monte Stivo to Rifugio Marchetti
Stivo: cross, hut, the view
A summit cross that seems to touch Trentino's sky. And a mountain hut waiting just below.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Val di Gresta, between Ronzo-Chienis and Roccolo, climbing through woods, open clearings and a few steeper stretches that remind you why you're here. It's an out-and-back route: we push up to the Summit Cross, then descend the same slopes watching the light shift across the valley. A few metres below the top sits the Rifugio Prospero Marchetti, named after SAT's first president — the perfect stop before the final push to 2059 m.
From the summit the view splits in two: Lake Garda on one side, the Brenta Dolomites on the other. One of Trentino's best-loved balconies.
5 reasons to join - the Summit Cross at 2059 m, a goal you can spot from far away - the Marchetti Hut, a historic stop just below the top - a double view: Garda on one side, Brenta on the other - a varied route through woods, pastures and rock - the satisfaction of an out-and-back done on your own legs
Who it's for You'll need solid legs and the will to tackle real elevation gain: no technical sections, but a few steep stretches keep you on your toes.
