Monte Ponta: the "belly button" of Zoldo on a loop trek through WWI trails
Monte Ponta: Zoldo's heart
They call it the belly button of Zoldo valley. Reach the top and you'll get why.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Costa, in Val di Zoldo, following a loop that climbs through woods and old military mule tracks. The trail gains height steadily, with one steeper stretch halfway up that keeps us focused. Then the forest opens and we reach Monte Ponta, 1946 metres, where the view explodes in every direction: the Pelmo right in front of us, the Civetta, the Bosconero, the whole valley spread below. No viewpoint here gives you more of Val Zoldo. The descent brings us back to Costa through more woods and traces of history.
We're walking part of the Great War Ecomuseum: near Col de Salera we can take an optional short detour to see a hidden observation post and an underground WWI shelter.
5 reasons to join - the most complete panorama over Val di Zoldo - the Pelmo close enough to touch - real WWI history along military mule tracks - a loop that keeps surprising you - the "belly button of Zoldo" nickname, fully earned
