Mount Pasubio: Hike the 52 Tunnels Road and Overnight at the Achille Papa Hut
The 52 Tunnels of the Pasubio
Fifty-two tunnels cut into the rock, and a night in a mountain hut.
The experience
Day 1. We set off with the Guidders from Bocchetta Campiglia and walk the legendary Strada delle 52 Gallerie: a military mule road cut into the rock during the First World War to supply the high positions out of enemy fire. Tunnels, impossible hairpins and views: we reach Rifugio Achille Papa, where we spend the night.
Day 2. The climb to Cima Palon, the summit of Monte Pasubio, and the return.
5 reasons to come - the Strada delle 52 Gallerie, a unique feat of engineering - the night at Rifugio Achille Papa - the Pasubio summit at Cima Palon - Great War history right under your feet - one of the most fascinating historic treks in the Alps
