Mount Garzirola and the San Lucio Refuge: A Panoramic Trek Between Italy and Switzerland in Val Cavargna
Mount Garzirola and the San Lucio refuge
A summit on the border, with Lake Lugano below.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Cavargna and climb gradually through alpine pasture and wide panoramic ridges towards Monte Garzirola, a summit that commands the Lake Lugano area and the mountains between Como, Ticino and the Val Cavargna. From the top the view opens enormously, from the Lombard pre-Alps to the peaks of Canton Ticino. The return passes Rifugio San Lucio, right on the border, closing the loop at Cavargna.
5 reasons to come - the summit of Monte Garzirola, between Italy and Switzerland - Lake Lugano seen from above - Rifugio San Lucio, on the border crossing - the panoramic ridges of the Val Cavargna - a little-known area, far from the classic circuits
Who it suits A gradual climb on paths and ridges: normal mountain walking fitness is enough.
A side of the mountains almost nobody knows: come and find it with the Guidders.
