Monte Frerone: trekking between Passo di Valfredda and the Adamello-like spires
Frerone: gateway to the Adamello
A true summit, with a passage you'll remember forever.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Rifugio Bazena, with the cool morning air accompanying us towards the valley. We climb with the Guidders up to Malga Valfredda, along a well-trodden mule track, and continue towards the Passo di Valfredda. Here the trail narrows: a short stretch along the mountainside with fixed metal chains leads us across the southern face of the mountain, a thrilling yet never trivial passage. Then the ridge opens up and we climb to Monte Frerone, at 2673 meters, where the panorama embraces the entire Alps. The route is an there-and-back: we descend along the same ridgeline and rocky path that brought us up, with the altitude granting us cool relief while the summer heat stays down in the valley.
Those who know these trails call it one of the "true" guardians of the Adamello: the Frerone must be approached with respect, not fear.
5 reasons to come - a stretch equipped with chains, short but unforgettable - Malga Valfredda as a waypoint - 360° panorama of the Alps from the summit - a true, deeply "felt" Adamello summit, without being impossible - the final toast with a well-earned cold beer
Who it's suited for Hikers with trained legs and a minimum of experience on exposed terrain: the chain section requires a steady foot, while the rest of the trail is challenging but never extreme.
Join the Guidders: the Frerone awaits you, and at the summit we'll toast together.
