WHY THIS HIKE

Mount Coltignone above Lecco

An open-air gym, right above Lecco.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders straight from town and get going immediately along the Alta Via delle Grigne, one of the finest lines in the area. We climb Monte San Martino, pass the Piani dei Resinelli and reach Monte Coltignone, between rock passages, exposed sections and terrain that keeps changing. The view over Lake Como and its eastern arm never leaves you. The descent finishes at Laorca.

5 reasons to come - the Alta Via delle Grigne, stretch by stretch - Monte Coltignone and its rock passages - the Piani dei Resinelli along the route - the constant view over Lake Como - leaving and returning on foot from town

Who it suits A technical, demanding route with rock passages and exposed sections: experience and a sure step are needed.

For those who already have the legs and the head: come and test them with the Guidders.

HOW TO GET THERE
08:00PARKING
Starting Point
We'll meet in Lecco, in the Santo Stefano area, right at the foot of the San Martino rockfall barrier.
10:00MOUNTAIN HUT
Mount San Martino
We'll hike to the Rifugio Piazza, nestled on Mount San Martino above Lecco, taking the classic trail #52. We might even spice things up with a detour via the "Saltarei" (an expert-level section!).
14:00EXPERT TRAIL
Resinelli Plains
"From San Martino to the Piani dei Resinelli, we'll follow trail 52, which traverses the entire Val Verde. The hike progresses from a standard hiking level (E) to a level suitable for Experienced Hikers (EE). Here, we'll get a taste of the Grigne's rocky terrain while remaining at a lower altitude. Expect some assisted sections, stepped passages to navigate both uphill and downhill, steep ascents and descents with slightly exposed sections where sure-footedness and a head for heights are essential. The lake will be below us, providing constant and stunning scenery."
14:30SUMMIT
Mount Coltignone: Conquer the Summit!
Starting from Resinelli, we'll reach Coltignone, the highest point of our loop. We'll pass by the famous panoramic walkway, but we'll find a quieter spot to truly enjoy the views (and grab a bite to eat) away from the crowds.
16:00HIKING TRAIL
Laorca
From Resinelli, we'll descend along the Calolden Valley to the Laorca district. Here, we can make a quick visit to the charming Laorca cemetery, considered one of the oldest existing cemeteries. It lies at the foot of the Corna Medale, nestled in a kind of natural amphitheater characterized by caves and recesses. One of these caves is said to have inspired Leonardo da Vinci in his painting, "The Virgin of the Rocks."
17:00RETURN
End of the hike
Finally, we'll head back to the vehicles along a path that's partly on roads, completing our loop hike.
