Monte di Borbino: an autumn trek through golden woods above Lecco
Borbino: golden woods on Lario
463 meters of height, a forest catching fire with color, and the lake always there below us.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Abbadia Lariana, through the hamlet of Borbino, and climb straight onto the mule track winding up through the chestnut woods. It's an out-and-back route: we go up steadily through the trees, with a few steep stretches taken one step at a time, all the way to the Monte di Borbino. In autumn the foliage turns every bend into a painting: reds, yellows, that golden afternoon light filtering through the branches. Along the way we pass a few fresh-water fountains, perfect for a break before the last push.
On the way down we can take a short detour to the Capeleta di Garoful: a small panoramic spot over Lake Lecco that's always worth the stop.
5 reasons to join - the autumn foliage setting the whole forest on fire - the view over Lake Lecco from the top - the optional detour to Capeleta di Garoful - a simple, honest out-and-back route - the golden afternoon light on the way down
Who it's for Anyone who wants a relaxed day out: there are a few steep bits, but they're easy to handle with a steady pace and a break or two.
