Mare a Mare Sud: from the mountains of Alta Rocca to the blue of the Mediterranean

Seven days in Corsica, four on foot. The Mare a Mare Sud crosses the island's most authentic heart: shaded forests, open ridges, stone villages and ancient shepherds' trails, from the Cartalavonu refuge to Levie, Serra di Scopamène, Santa Lucia di Tallano and down to the sea at Propriano. Every day the scenery changes: chestnut woods, pastures, Mediterranean scrub, olive trees and warm light, until the horizon opens onto the water.

You sleep in the gîtes d'étape along the way, half board, then two nights in Bonifacio: a sea day on the Lavezzi islands, granite beaches and snorkelling, closes the trip. Balanced but real stages, 10 to 19 km with 600–1,000 metres of ascent: good fitness needed, nothing technical.

Good to know

Meeting point in Livorno at 8:00 for the 8:00 ferry to Bastia, which we book together: not included, from €30. The return is free, from Bastia, Figari or Santa Teresa di Gallura. Packed lunches (the gîte panier costs €9–10), dinners in Bonifacio, drinks, tourist tax and sleeping-bag liner (€5–6 per night in the gîtes) not included. Optional extra on day six: a full day on a 9-metre RIB reserved for the group among Lavezzi, Cavallo, Piantarella and the caves, €99 each, runs with at least 9 people; otherwise the shuttle boat and a refund.
