Lanzarote was born of fire: in the eighteenth century six years of eruptions covered a quarter of the island in lava, and that landscape is still there, black and still, among red cones and vines in the ash. On this trip you discover it on foot, at an easy pace: five walks of 13-17 km, a day on La Graciosa and a free day.

We climb two volcanoes above Costa Teguise, walk the Famara cliffs, six hundred metres above the ocean, along the Papagayo beaches and into Caldera Blanca, the white crater on the edge of Timanfaya park. You sleep every night in the same 4-star hotel in Costa Teguise, half board, and in the evening we have dinner together with the other Guidders, with the Guiddy Coordinator looking after the group for the whole trip.

Five walking days out of eight, about 74 km in all. The hardest day is Famara: 16 km and about 6 hours, with 800 m of climbing up the cliffs. The other days are 13-17 km and 4-5 hours. You walk on paths, dirt tracks and sand, never on exposed ground. Suitable for people who do day hikes with some climbing.
Safety
MUST READ
Sun: even out of season it burns and there is little shade; sun cream, sunglasses and a hat. Water: bring 2 litres each, there are no fountains along the paths. Wind: the trade winds often blow hard, especially on the Famara cliffs; keep away from the edge. Lava: the flows are sharp, stay on the path. Ferry: it doesn't sail in rough seas, and the day is swapped.
Accommodation
Every night in the same 4-star hotel in Costa Teguise, in a double room, with buffet breakfast and dinner (drinks excluded). Single room on request, with a supplement. Shared rooms, mixed too. Single room on request.
Transport
Flight not included: you land at Arrecife airport (ACE) by the afternoon of day one and fly home on the last day, after breakfast. The hotel is about twelve kilometres from the airport, a quarter of an hour by taxi. On the island we travel by the group's private minibus and the ferry to La Graciosa, both included.
Optional extras

Cactus Garden on the free day: €9. Drinks in Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero: you pay for what you have. Single room: supplement on request. Taxi between the airport and the hotel: about €20-25 a ride, to share.
Weather and changes of plan
Lanzarote has spring all year round: in autumn and spring 22-25 degrees by day and 16-18 at night, little rain and frequent wind. The ocean is around 19-22 degrees. Dress in light layers, with a windproof and a fleece for the evening on the volcano.
