WHY THIS HIKE

Saoseo & Viola: two lakes, one loop

Two lakes glowing blue and violet between larches and spruce. That's all we need.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Sfazù and climb through the wide Val di Campo, crossing woods and pastures that open up as we gain height. It's a loop: we climb past 2200 meters and come back down the other side, with the view shifting at every turn. First highlight: Lake Saoseo, where the blue and violet water stands out against the surrounding green spruce. We then head toward Lake Viola, the real scenic heart of the day, before closing the loop back to Sfazù.

Lake Saoseo is famous exactly for these colors: in autumn, when the larches turn gold, the contrast becomes a show worth the climb on its own.

5 reasons to join - two alpine lakes with almost unreal colors - a varied loop, never boring - the wide Val di Campo in all its scale - optional stop at Rifugio Saoseo - scenery that keeps changing along the trail

Who it's for A hiking route for anyone with decent legs and a few hours to spend at altitude: no technical skills needed, just a steady pace.

Book with the Guidders: let's go together, the lakes are waiting.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Dario, a mid-mountain leader and International Mountain Leader. I live in the Valtellina and I know it deeply: for over 40 years I worked here as a technical manager on the ground, across environment, maintenance and civil protection. Forty years like that teach you to read a valley in a way you don't learn by crossing it on holiday. I guide across the Valtellina, the Valchiavenna, Lake Como and over the border too, sharing the trails, the views and the stories of these places. I've walked the Camino de Santiago several times, along with other great European routes: experiences that taught me the value of walking slowly and discovering as you go. On my outings I bring experience, care for safety and knowledge of the land, but also a passion for travel and exploration. 🥾🌄 See you in the mountains, Guidders!
