Lake Tenno and Canale in autumn: from Monte Calino to the turquoise lake among beeches and chestnuts
Lake Tenno: turquoise and gold
A turquoise lake that looks painted, a medieval stone village and beech and chestnut woods that turn red at the end of October: Lake Tenno is the most colourful autumn on Trentino's Lake Garda.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Tenno, the castle village, and climb through the woods to the San Pietro hut on Monte Calino, a balcony over the whole of upper Lake Garda. Then we drop down through beeches and chestnuts to Lake Tenno, where we stop for lunch on the shore, and climb back up to the village of Canale, with its alleys and stone arches. A last stretch through the woods and back to Tenno.
The lake was born from a landslide about a thousand years ago, and its colour changes with the light; Canale di Tenno is one of Italy's Most Beautiful Villages.
Anyone who walks regularly: the climb to Calino is steady but on a comfortable path, and the rest is a stroll.
Come and discover Lake Garda in autumn with the Guidders: a postcard lake and a village where time has stood still.
Tenno is about two and a half hours from Milan: A4 to Brescia and the Garda road via Salò and Riva, or A4 and A22 to Rovereto Sud and the road to Riva del Garda; from Riva it is a quarter of an hour up. Car pooling in the outing's Telegram group.
