Lake Darengo, from Livo to the Como Hut, through woods and wild valley

An alpine lake at the head of a wild valley.

We set off with the Guidders from Livo, above the upper Lake Como, first along the Via dei Monti Lariani and then turning into the Val Darengo, where we cross the striking Ponte Dangri. From there a firm climb begins on a stepped mule track, among beech woods and barns, with the setting growing wilder all the time. At the head of the valley comes Lago Darengo, and just above it the Capanna Como, set on a knoll looking down at the water. Hard work, yes, but repaid.
