La grotta dei Pagani sotto la Presolana
Grotta dei Pagani below Presolana
Icicles hidden in the south face.
The experience
The Grotta dei Pagani is a natural hollow hidden among the rock walls of the south face of the Presolana, where in winter something remarkable happens: icicles and ice stalagmites take on shapes like small statues — which is where the cave's name comes from. We are in the rock amphitheatre of the Presolana, its dolomite walls rising against the sky. We set off with the Guidders from the Passo della Presolana, by way of the Baita dei Cassinelli and the Bivacco Città di Clusone.
