The Pagani Cave in the Presolana.
The Pagans’ Cave in the Presolana
A cave hidden in the south face of the Presolana.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from the Passo della Presolana and climb towards one of the most striking places in the Orobie: the Grotta dei Pagani. The route passes the Baita Cassinelli, a viewpoint at the foot of the Queen, and carries on into the Valle dell'Ombra, where the setting turns wilder and more dramatic. Past the Bivacco Città di Clusone, looking out over the valley, we reach the cave: hidden among the rock walls, as if the mountain were keeping it.
