Il Monte Crocetta, paesaggi mozzafiato sull'alto lago di Como
Monte Crocetta above Lake Como
Chestnut woods, a red-roofed chapel and the upper lake below.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Dongo, a pretty village at the northern end of Lake Como, and climb paths through fine chestnut woods to Monte Crocetta, where we stop and look. We set off again by way of the Sasso di Musso and reach the little church of San Bernardo, recognisable by its unmistakable red-roofed bell tower. We eat there, and then head down, alternating paths and glimpses of the lake.
5 reasons to come - the church of San Bernardo and its red bell tower - Monte Crocetta, looking out over the upper lake - the Sasso di Musso along the route - the chestnut woods above Dongo - the lake view changing at every bend
Who it suits A varied route on well-marked paths: normal walking fitness is enough.
Breathtaking views over the upper lake: come with the Guidders.
