The stunning Lake Sorapis and the Vandelli Refuge
Lake Sorapis and the Vandelli refuge
Turquoise water at the foot of the Finger of God.
The experience
Among the wonders of the Dolomites is Lago di Sorapis, its crystal water set at the foot of the Dito di Dio, one of the most recognisable peaks of the group. That unique colour comes from limestone rock dust on the lake bed, carried down by the melting glacier. With the Guidders we walk to Rifugio Vandelli and then to the lake: the path asks for real commitment, but the view repays it in full.
5 reasons to come - Lago di Sorapis and its unique turquoise - the Dito di Dio, towering above it - Rifugio Vandelli on the shore - the colour of the water, explained by geology - one of the most photographed sights in the Dolomites
Who it suits A path that asks for commitment, with fitted exposed sections: a sure step is needed.
