WHY THIS HIKE

Winter at Capanna 2000 below Pizzo Arera

A hut beneath the walls of the Arera, with snow all around.

Group chat a couple of days before
Come alone, leave with new friends

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Plassa, at Zambla Alta, and climb towards Rifugio Capanna 2000, alternating the access road with an easy forestry track, wrapped in the quiet of the winter mountains. Along the way you can pick out Monte Alben, Pizzo Grem, Cima Foppazzi and Cima di Menna, while snow-covered woodland keeps you company step after step. The hut sits beneath the imposing walls of Pizzo Arera, and inside the welcome is the genuine kind.

5 reasons to come - Rifugio Capanna 2000 below the walls of Pizzo Arera - snow-covered woodland the whole way up - Monte Alben and Cima di Menna recognisable from the route - an easy line, suitable in winter too - the quiet of the mountains under snow

Who it suits A route with nothing technical on a wide track: normal walking fitness, with winter kit.

Winter in the Orobie tastes different: come and try it with the Guidders.
