Hike to Pizzo Zerna from Pagliari: a wild trekking adventure through Val Sambuzza, with waterfalls and alpine lakes
Pizzo Zerna, a panoramic balcony
A waterfall, three lakes and a summit few people walk.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Pagliari, above Carona, and enter the Val Sambuzza: mountain barns, the valley's waterfall, the Baitone and then the still water of the Caldirolo lakes and Lago di Varobbio. We climb an alpine path to Passo Publino and from there to the summit of Pizzo Zerna, through pasture, scree and steep high ground. The joy of it is how the landscape keeps changing pace: valley floor to barns, waterfalls to glacial basins, up to the final ridge where the view opens onto the Orobie, the lakes and the border crests.
5 reasons to come - a real summit, and a quiet one - the Val Sambuzza waterfall - the Caldirolo lakes and Lago di Varobbio in the same day - Passo Publino, on the divide between valleys - a varied path, technical just enough
