Hike to Monte Stivo: a panoramic summit in the Garda Alps
Monte Stivo from Bordala
A natural balcony above Lake Garda.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Passo Bordala, between the Vallagarina and the Trentino pre-Alps, and climb towards the summit of Monte Stivo: woodland first, then open pastures, finally steeper slopes up to the Rifugio Marchetti area and the top. In a few hours you go from a green mountain pass to a point where the eye takes in Lake Garda on one side and the Brenta Dolomites on the other. A solid trek, with that fine feeling of arriving on a real summit.
5 reasons to come - the view over Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites - the summit of Monte Stivo, a natural balcony above the lake - the stop at Rifugio Marchetti - a path that keeps changing, from woods to pasture - a climb that builds fitness but stays within reach
Who it suits A good amount of height gain and some tiring sections on stony ground: you need trained legs and care on the way down.
Lake Garda from up here changes everything: come and look at it with the Guidders.
