Col Audoi: a scenic trek along the trails of Lorenzago
Col Audoi: views on the Dolomites
1560 meters, WWI trenches and a view that stretches to the Cridola group.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Lorenzago, following an old military track that climbs gently through the woods of Cadore. We hike with the Guidders past wayside shrines engraved with quotes from Pope John Paul II, along a stretch of the Sentiero del Papa, until a narrow passage between two rocks leads us to the Tabià Antrecole. The route is a loop: from the top of Col Audoi the view opens onto Lorenzago, the Centro Cadore, the Friulian Dolomites and the Antelao. On the way down we head back past Val de Palù, a peat bog with a rare and rich ecosystem.
At Col Ciampon, along the way, old trenches and lookout posts from the Great War have been uncovered: the mountain still tells that story.
