WHY THIS HIKE

Ombrettola: Marmolada's wild valley

2916 meters right under the south face of the Marmolada. If you're after real mountain vibes, this is it.

The experience

We set off with the Guidders from Malga Ciapela and head straight into Val Ombretta, one of the wildest and most beautiful valleys in the Dolomites. The trail climbs through the woods, opens up at the meadows of Malga Ombretta and continues to Rifugio Falier, open only in summer, with the south face of the Marmolada towering above us the whole way. From there the path gets wilder: scree and rocky ground lead to the final steeper stretch up to Cima Ombrettola, at 2916 meters. It's an out-and-back route: same way up and down, and on the descent we take our time enjoying everything we just climbed through.

We're standing right below the south face of the Marmolada, the wall climbed by some of the greatest alpinists in history: seeing it from here, up close, still gives you chills.

5 reasons to join - the Marmolada's south face right above you the whole climb - Val Ombretta, one of the wildest valleys in the Dolomites - Rifugio Falier as a perfect stop along the way - real, remote mountain feeling, far from the crowds - a cold beer at the finish, well earned

Who it's for You'll need good stamina and some hiking experience: it's a long climb and the last stretch gets steeper. No technical gear or climbing skills needed.

We start early with the cool morning air, climb together, and take in the Marmolada from an angle few people ever see. Come join the Guidders.

Hi Guidders! 🧡 I'm Alessandro, I'm 35 and I live in the heart of the Dolomites, in Cadore. I'm a mid-mountain leader with the Collegio Guide Alpine del Veneto and a UIMLA member, with a degree in Sport Science, an MTB guide and — yes — a sommelier too: after a hike, a good glass is never out of place. 🍷 I live the mountains in every form they come in: trekking, trail running, mountain bike adventures. Moving in nature is pure energy for me, discovery, feeling, and sharing it is the part of the job I never tire of. Panoramic ridge or woodland singletrack, the goal is the same: a real, active day that puts you back together. See you in the mountains, Guidders!
