Cima della Zocca: The Wild Summit Between Valtellina and Tartano Valley
Cima della Zocca, between Valtellina and Val Tartano
A grassy summit you have to read, well off the obvious routes.
The experience
We set off with the Guidders from Campo Tartano and climb to Alpe d'Assola, then to Cima della Zocca, also known as Cima d'Assola: a grassy, panoramic top dividing the Valle di Tartano from the Valtellina. There are no mountaineering difficulties, but the junctions are poorly marked and some sections are steep: this is a climb earned with legs, attention and a taste for adventure. Which is exactly why it stays with you.
5 reasons to come - a summit well away from the obvious routes - the view between the Valle di Tartano and the Valtellina - Alpe d'Assola along the climb - paths you have to read, the way experienced walkers like - the silence of a rarely visited mountain
Who it suits No mountaineering difficulties, but you need good fitness, a sure step and to be at ease with faint junctions.
For the more experienced Guidders: come and take it with us.
