Snowshoeing in Valle delle Messi: the most authentic winter experience above Ponte di Legno
Snowshoe Hike, Valle delle Messi
A valley where winter makes no noise.
The experience
We step quietly into the Valle delle Messi with the Guidders, above Ponte di Legno, inside the Stelvio National Park. We start at Santa Apollonia, known for its old iron-rich spring, and follow an easy loop along the stream: little bridges, snowy clearings, old farm hamlets and silent stretches of woodland. We pass Case Silizzi, Case degli Orti and Case Predazzo, cross the stream several times and close the circle along the valley road. There is no summit to conquer here: the point is walking slowly and watching how snow rewrites the landscape.
5 reasons to come - a valley in the upper Valle Camonica well off the busy circuits - old farm hamlets buried in snow - the stream crossed again and again on wooden bridges - an easy loop, fine for your first time on snowshoes - the Stelvio National Park in winter
Who it suits Little height gain and gentle ground: perfect if you are new to snowshoeing.
Come and walk slowly with the Guidders: some valleys are best taken this way.
